VOLUNTEERING
Our volunteers offer compassionate and practical support,
providing companionship, helping with directions around our hospitals
and supporting our staff so they have more time to care.
We have over 250 dedicated volunteers who play an essential role in comforting and supporting patients, especially those without visitors. They offer companionship and provide emotional and pastoral support to those in need.
Volunteers help patients with directions, offer vital information, and free up staff time so they can focus more on clinical care.
Volunteers can also act as an extra pair of hands or eyes to enhance the patient experience and support the smooth operation of our hospitals.
Volunteers contribute their time and skills in more than 25 different roles, including:
- Patient support volunteers support patients in our wards, outpatients and Emergency Departments through companionship, as well as becoming an integral member of the team.
- Oncology patient support volunteers provide support for cancer patients and their families when coming to our Kent Oncology Centre.
- Chaplaincy volunteers offer spiritual care and emotional support.
- Pets As Therapy (PAT) volunteers bring comfort through therapy animals.
- Breastfeeding support volunteers assist new mothers with breastfeeding.
- Leagues of friends: volunteering with the leagues of friends for Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells hospitals to support the community.
If you’re interested in becoming a volunteer and making a difference to patients and staff, we would love to hear from you.
